Train from Chiang Rai to Bangkok

Chiang Rai is not connected to Bangkok by train, in order to travel primarily by train first take a bus to Chiang Mai. Buses to Chiang Mai take 3 hours and depart half hourly from 0600 to 1745. There are 2 day trains from Chiang Mai to Bangkok the quickest of which departs at 0845 and arrives at 2025 (the slower departs at 0645 and arrives 2110). There are a further 4 direct trains travelling through the night and departing at 1450, 1630, 1755 and 2100. Journey times around 12 – 14 hours.
