Train from Bangkok to Vientiane

Since early in 2009 it has been possible to travel by train from Bangkok all the way to Thanaleng in Laos, only a few km from Vientiane. Take the 2000 overnight train service from Bangkok to Nong Khai, then change to a connecting service there which arrives in Thanaleng at 1005. Total journey time is around 14 hours, you can't actually buy a through ticket so you need to buy a ticket to Nong Khai online or at the station and then by a ticket through to Thanaleng in Nong Khai. When booking accommodation in Vientiane consider arranging collection from the train station through them.
