The term Middle East was first coined in later part of the 19th Century and moved into common use during the 20th Century. With conflict in the Gulf region over the last few years, in some minds the term ‘Middle East' conjures up images of fanatical bogeymen. In the minds of most visitors to the region, however, nothing could be further from the truth.
