Guide to Muscat

map
With a population of 734,000 people living in its metropolitan area, the city of Muscat is the capital of Oman, and was an important port on the gulf of the same name. It lies to the northeast of the country, and forms two natural harbours, and lies on a rugged terrain formed by the Western Al Hajar Mountains. Known for its white buildings, harbour and as a trade destination, Muscat comprises three smaller towns of Muscat, the walled city, Matrah, home to the souk, and Ruwi, the commercial part of the city. Don't miss the beauty of its untouched coastline, the formidable forts of Al Jalali and Al Mirani, and the palace of Qasr Al Alam.
