Guide to Aleppo

map
With a population of over 2.3 million inhabitants, Aleppo is Syria's largest city, and one of the oldest civilisations in the world. About 120 kilometres from the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea, Aleppo lies on the bank of the river Quweig. There are some fantastic historical sights to be enjoyed, including a lofty citadel which dates back to the 13th century. Don't miss the unusual Bimiristan Afghan, a museum which has been converted from a mental hospital.
