England's capital city and largest metropolitan area, London has a total population of 8.2 million people living in its colossal urban space. It lies to the south-east of the country, on the River Thames, and is well known as a global city and leading financial centre. It's also due to host the Olympic Games in 2012, and is home the World Heritage Sites of The Tower of London, The Palace of Westminster, Westminster Abbey and St Margaret's Church.
