One of the largest islands in the world, Greenland is located to the east of Canada, between the Atlantic and Arctic Oceans. It has a total population of 56,000; it's also the world's least populous country. Still partly under Danish government, Greenland's capital is the city of Nuuk, with a tiny population of 15,000 people. Most of the country has a sub-arctic climate, and 81% is covered by ice sheet but most of the settlements are located on ice-free areas. Home to Scoresby Sun, the world's longest fjord, the country also hosts a snow festival, a marathon, and is one of the best places in which to watch whales.
