Guide to New Orleans

map
Louisiana's largest city, New Orleans has a total population of 343,000 people living in its urban area. Located on the banks of the Mississippi River, south of Lake Pontchartrain and on the southernmost coastline of the United States, New Orleans recently hit global headlines when it was ravaged by Hurricane Katrina. It's well known for its quirky cuisine, as the home of jazz music and for the French Creole architecture which characterises its cityscape. Don't miss the Mardi Gras, a yearly carnival event which is one of the hugest free parties in the world.
