At the confluence of the Allegheny and Monongahela Rivers, the city of Pittsburgh lies 395 km from Washington DC, and is the second largest city in Pennsylvania with a population of over 1.7 million people living in its urban area. The city is well-known for its unique terrain, riven as it is by the rivers, and because of this, its bridges and hilly areas it's one of the most scenic urbanizations in the States. Visitors should visit Downtown for a glimpse of some extraordinary architecture, including the U.S. Steel Tower and the Frick building. Don't neglect to head up Mt Washington for a view of the quirky cityscape.
