Guide to La Paz

map
Bolivia's administrative capital with a total population of 877,000 people, La Paz lies on the Choqueyapu River, in the valleys of the Andes, near to the country's tallest mountain, the Sajama Volcano. It's famous for its stratified city structure, with its poorer population at a higher altitude, descending to more affluent neighbourhoods in flatter areas. Don't miss the incredibly quirky Witches' market, where among aphrodisiacs and figurines punters can pick up musical instruments and dried frogs!
