With a total population of almost 5,000 people, the town of San Pedro de Atacama is a popular tourist destination, mainly for its location in the heart of some of Chile's most dramatic landscapes. Closely linked to the Los Flamencos National Reserve, the El Tatio geyser field and the Valle de la Luna, there are some singular sights to be explored nearby. Don't miss a trip to the Laguna Cejar, to the north of the Atacama Salt Plain, where visitors can bathe in waters similar to those of the Dead Sea, if only in summer.
