Guide to Cartagena

map
On South America's northern coast in Colombia lays the city of Cartagena, with a population of 892,000 residents. Cartagena is best known as a Caribbean beach resort, though it has a historical lineage dating back to 4000 BC. The older, walled parts of the city date from the 16th and 17th centuries, and formed part of the Spanish main trade route. Don't miss the Castillo de San Felipe, a 17th century fortress.
