Guide to Phnom Penh

map
The largest city in Cambodia, and its capital, Pnom Penh has a total population of 2.2 million people. It is situated on the banks of the Mekong River, in the south-central region of the country, and lies on a low-lying wet plain. It's well known for its French colonial style architecture, for the former Khmer Rouge occupation and its pretty riverfront. Don't miss the harrowing Genocide Museum, a sobering reminder of the country's painful history, the nearby Killing Fields of Choeung Ek and the National Museum of Cambodia.
