Guide to Bali

map

Bali airport is located in Denpasar near the popular resort destination of Kuta. Bali holidays have long been popular in Australia and the boisterous resort of Kuta Beach is well known for wild nights of clubbing as well as amazing surf and sand.

When planning Bali holidays it is important to consider the Bali weather, seasons are quite different to other popular destinations in South East Asia. The dry season in Bali runs from April/May through to October. Interestingly this means that the best Bali weather coincides with the British summer holiday season. This is in sharp contrast with popular resorts in Thailand like Phuket and Koh Samui which are better suited to winter holidays (as July and August fall in the middle of their wet season!)

Kuta is probably the most in your face side to Bali it still manages to exude enough of that Balinese charm to keep people coming back. You don’t have to travel far from the centre of Kuta to see the pace slow quite considerably so think families might like to consider basing themselves just outside Kuta.

Inland Ubud is a place where you can see a very different side to the island compared to the resorts. Tourism to Ubud tends to concentrate more on the Balinese culture with plenty temples and other historical sites as well as amazing food.

Local Transport

Getting from Bali airport to the tourist centre of Kuta takes only around 15 minutes. You can book a prepaid taxi from Bali airport for a set price of 50,000 rupiahs at the taxi office. You will pay inside the airport and be given a receipt. You can get a better price by leaving the airport and organising a cab out front (on meter) but at less than £4 the official taxi compares very favourably to pre-booked Bali airport transfers.
