Guide to Ubud

map
In central Bali, the cultural arena of Ubud lies among the many surrounding villages and is part of the Gianyar regency, with a population of 30,000 people. A place of rapid growth in recent years, this spiritual and artistic centre is far less hectic than many other areas of Indonesia. Visit the hot springs at Tirta Empul, one of the most serene temples in Bali, admire the intricate carvings and cave temples of Goa Gajah, and don't miss the area's wildlife, including the monkey forest and the white herons to be glimpsed at Petulu.
