Guide to Chiang Mai

map
Located in northern Thailand, and capital of the Chiang Mai province, the city of Chiang Mai is situated on the Ping River, around 700 kilometres from Bangkok. Known for its rich culture, the city is surrounded by dizzying mountains and has a population of over 148,000 people living in its urban areas. As well as its proliferations of beautiful and unique temples, there are museums and festivals to explore. Don't miss the Elephant Nature Park, where visitors can care for rescued elephants and even volunteer short term.
