Guide to Chiang Rai

map
In the very north of Thailand, the capital of the Chiang Rai province, lies the city of Chiang Rai, around 200 kilometres to the northeast of Chiang Mai and 62 kilometres south of the Laos border, just south of the Mae Kok River. The small city has a population of around 62,000 people, and is well known for its beautiful temples, as a base for learning about the hill tribes of Thailand, as well as a point of further travel to explore the rest of the Golden Triangle. Don't miss the White Temple, an intricate, immensely beautiful building which gleams in the sunlight and resembles a coral formation.
