Guide to Sukhothai

map
A small city 427 kilometres from Bangkok, Sukhothai is famous as an ancient capital of Thailand, which is now recognised by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. It has a population of around 35,000 people. Best explored on foot or even better, by bicycle, the historic wonderland contains ruins, Buddha statues and 70 square kilometres of ancient civilisation to discover. Most of the main sights can be seen in the central zone, and an electric tram service makes it easier to get around. Don't miss the many treats to be sampled at the Sukhothai Market, the perfect way to start a long day's sightseeing!
