This was the trip that started it all for Intrepid, and it remains one of our most popular. Northern Thailand is one of the greatest adventure destinations on the planet and on this journey we make the most of it - hiking among the hilltribes, sailing on the rivers and calling in to the friendly and colourful villages. Come along and see why this has become the benchmark for all our other journeys.

Itinerary / Tour Breakdown
Day 1 (Bangkok) - Trade busy streets for lively waterways and take a longtail cruise down the Chao Phraya River. See all 46 metres of the tremendous reclining Buddha at Wat Pho before lunching at the floating markets.

Day 2 - 4 (Kanchanaburi) - Visit the Jeath War Museum then head out of town to swim beneath the seven-tiered waterfall at Erawan National Park. There's even a chance to kayak back to town, paddling under the infamous Death Railway Bridge.

Day 5 (Ayutthaya) - This ancient capital of Siam boasts beautiful temples. Wat Phra Mahathat is a highlight, while fortunes are revealed at Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon.

Day 6 - 7 (Chiang Mai) - Ride elephants through a national park then drift downriver on a bamboo raft. Enjoy a traditional massage or snap up a bargain at the night market.

Day 8 (Chiang Mai) - Homestay: Experience village life on an overnight stay with Intrepid's long-time friends. Tonight, enjoy a khan toke dinner accompanied by a dance performance by local school kids.

Day 9 - 11 (Travelling) - Hilltribe Trek: Hike through remote villages and discover diverse hilltribe cultures. Stay in simple huts and trek through rural terrain, past lush rice terraces carved into the hills.

Day 12 - 13 (Chiang Rai) - Stop by colourful Mae Sai on the way to the border junction between Thailand, Laos and Myanmar. Visit the Opium Museum, take a fast boat down the Mekong or visit the bustling night market before boarding the overnight train to Bangkok.

Day 14 - 15 (Bangkok) - Stroll the extensive Chatuchak Weekend Market or soak up Chinatown's heady sights and smells.
